The goals of the proposal are the maximisation of the plot’s (Quinta do Chacão, Carregado) urban development potential,
the development of a project for the construction of a logistics terminal (with a reception area, service facilities and car parking) and the consolidation of the urban fabric bounded by the area surrounding the N1 and comprising the commercial and industrial plots flanking the project area.
The main concept explores the idea of urban intervention — an urban project that can be an act of self-renewal, introducing difference into the existing urban fabric. This difference is the transformation of a given urban fabric through the reshaping of both the site and its surroundings, paving the way for new urban paradigms. This results in a proposal that, essentially, aims at the implementation of a warehousing and logistics programme that affects mobility and access to the site.
As a consequence, it also aims to solve some of the area’s problems: the lack of urban consolidation and the fact that the plot is flanked by interventions conceived as autonomous entities, without any reference point external to their own limits. With these issues in mind, a single element was conceived (the wall) as a mediational device, capable of linking the existing general urban context with the situated development of the site.
